MOTHER NATURE CARVED A NICHE,
AND TOUCHED HER MAGIC WAND,
TO FORM THE BRAES THAT HIGHLIGHT
A BEACH OF ROCK AND SAND,
SHE GAZED UPON HER HANDIWORK
WHILE REPOSING ON THE SHORE
AND BLESSED THE LOVELY SPO FOR AYE
THEN NAMES IT BALINTORE.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN FOUND IT
AND BUILDED THEREUPON
THROUGH WINTER GATES AND SUMMERS HEAT
THEY TOILED AND CARRIED ON
AGAINST GREAT ODDS, THE WINDS AND TIDES
THEIR LIVLIHOOD THE SEA
FOR EACH BLESSING AS RECEIVED
GAVE THANKS ON BENDED KNEE.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
YEARS PASSED THE OLD FOLKS LIE
IN PEACE UPON THE HILL,
WHICH OVERLOOKS THE ROCKBOUND COAST
THEIR VOICES ARE NOW STILL.
BUT WITHIN EACH DWELLING THERE
THEY LEFT THEIR ALL IN STORE
NO BETTER FOLKS IN ALL THE WORLD
THAN THOSE IN BALLINTORE.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I KNOW THE ROAD THAT LED ME THERE,
WINDING MID’ST THE BRAES
A STRANGER FOUND A RENDEZVOUS
AND WELCOME AT MACRAES AND
AS I LISTENED TO THE WAVES
THAT BEAT UPON THE SHORE
THEY SEEMED TO SPEAK TO ME AND SAY
COME BACK TO BALINTORE.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
