September 1969, Oona Ross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Gregor Ross, The Schoolhouse, Hilton, has been invited to join the Scottish Schoolgirls team for the home international. Oona a pupil of Tain Royal Academy, won the intermediate group long jump championship at the Scottish Schoolgirl Championships at Glasgow in June. She has trained with the Scottish team under the watchful eye of National Coach, Mr. John Anderson. A 17ft 11in jump qualified Oona for the team and she came fourth in Britain. Oona has also been invited to join a team of selected athletes with a view to training for next year’s Commonwealth Games at Edinburgh.

July 1970. Oona Ross, Tain Royal Academy, the holder of the Scottish Schoolgirls’ Senior Long Jump championship, is to represent Scotland in a four-cornered schools international meeting in Dublin this month.

July 1971. Oona Ross, Tain Royal Academy, was placed fifth in the long jump event, in the British Schools’ International Match at Meadowbank, Edinburgh.
