Louisa Skinner became the first Sister/Tutor of the Nurse Training School At Raigmore Hospital, this went on to later become the Highland College of Nursing and Midwifery. Louisa held this post from the school’s inauguration in 1946 until her retirement in 1968. The initial intake of pupils was twelve but hundreds more would pass through her hands before her retirement.
Louisa McBean Skinner was a native of Balintore, born in 1907, she passed her General Nursing Examination on all subjects at Inverness Royal Infirmary in 1935 and on moving to Raigmore Hospital went on to train many new nurses in her twenty two years in charge of the Training College.
Louisa was a founder member of the Reformed Baptist Church in Telford Road, Inverness. She passed away in the Elmgrove Nursing Home, Inverness, on the 9th of February 1988 at the age of eighty one, Louisa was interred in Balintore Cemetery.
