June, 1885 - June 1885

Three young Balintore Fishermen were cod fishing when their boat overturned in a sudden squall, John MacKenzie, William Skinner and Alexander Urquhart were thrown into the sea. Boats were sent from the shore and Skinner and Urquhart were rescued, very exhausted, MacKenzie’s body was not recovered until 3 hours later. The accident was put down to the fishermen tying the sheet to the boat instead of holding the sheet in their hand.
