Mrs Cameron , Balintore, told, on a radio programme, how, in 1940 a German Heinkel bomber was attacking a minesweeper just off Balintore. With no men in the village, the women armed themselves with axes, fence posts and filled their aprons with stones should the aircraft be shot down and the crew were to swim ashore. The bomber eventually flew off and Mrs Cameron said the women were really mad that they did not get a chance to see action.
